Bobby Labonte bringing Totino’s MEGA Pizza Rolls to mega track
LEVEL CROSS, NC (August 1, 2006) - This weekend, Bobby Labonte and the #43 Totino’s MEGA Pizza Rolls Dodge team head to the 2.5-mile Indianapolis (Ind.) Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.
Labonte will be racing a special paint scheme on the side of the famed ‘43’. Labonte will be racing the Totino’s MEGA Pizza Rolls Dodge. Totino’s MEGA Pizza Rolls are 2X bigger than regular Totino’s® Pizza Rolls® brand pizza snacks. It only makes sense that the Totino’s MEGA Pizza Rolls Dodge will race at the mega track- the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Indianapolis is more than two times larger than most tracks on the circuit.
Labonte is one of only five full-time active drivers to have won this prestigious race. Labonte “kissed the bricks” in 2000, the same season he won the Nextel Cup championship. Labonte’s crew chief Todd Parrott has won the Brickyard 400 with driver Dale Jarrett. Robbie Loomis, Executive Director of Race Operations has also won the Allstate 400.
Comments from Labonte as he prepares for this weekend’s Allstate 400:
You ran well at Pocono. Does that prepare you for this weekend?
“We hope so. We finished eighth at Pocono a few weeks ago and we want to ride that momentum into Indy. Pocono can help you get ready for Indy, but we’re bringing a different car that we raced at Pocono. It’s going to be even better and we feel pretty good about that.
“We had a good finish at Pocono, but Indy is going to be a completely new race for us. We tested and learned some things. I’ve won there and Todd has won there. Robbie (Loomis) has wins with Jeff Gordon. We have the people and know-how to win this race. Probably better than most teams in the garage. That feels pretty good too.
How does it feel to win this race?
“It’s a great feeling to win this race. We race to win every race and all the wins are special. They are so hard to get, but when you win at Indianapolis it’s pretty special. I won in 2000 and it was a part of the championship year. We just had everything come together, but it took a lot of hard work. That’s the similarities I see this season with this team. We are working harder than ever to get into victory lane. We know what we have to do to make it happen. We just have to put the little pieces together. You have to have a great day to win at Indy. We want to be great on Sunday.”
There haven’t been that many people to win at Indy. Why is it so hard to win?
“You just have to have a great day. The car has to be perfect, pit stops have to be perfect and your race strategy has to be perfect. This is a big track and it’s tough to pass. It has a lot to do with track position and where you are at with 20 or 30 laps to go. You have to be in position to win.
“We’ve seen guys with great runs, but not in the right position at the end. That’s a big part of it. There usually aren’t many cautions and track position is crucial. You just have to have that ‘perfect’ race. You don’t win big races by luck alone. This is a big race and you have to be prepared. We have a lot of the right people with wins at Indy. We know what it takes. Hopefully we can take that knowledge and turn it into a victory this Sunday.” |
